Ratanakiri and Mekong Itinerary

Day 1 Travel by car from Phnom Penh directly to a nature lodge on the river north of Stung Treng, stopping in Kratie town for lunch en route. Arrive in time to get settled, explore the area a bit and watch the sunset over the Mekong River from the lodge restaurant veranda or from your private balcony. Optional cycling trip through the Mekong Wetlands area. Cycling: 6 km.

Day 2 Leave Stung Treng by bicycle along a scenic river route, passing through quiet villages and watching local river life and fishing until arriving at a deep dolphin pool where you will stop for lunch in the village and watch the rare Mekong River Dolphins. After lunch, transfer by car to a primary forest eco-tourism site where you can stay in a village home stay (basic facilities) and explore the old growth forest trails and scenic creeks and rapids winding through the jungle. Cycling: 35 km.

Day 3 Transfer by car to the 100 Pillars Pagoda where we will explore the renowned pilgrimage site before crossing to an island by boat at a scenic area of the Mekong River. After lunch on the island, begin cycling along the river route, stopping to visit Sambok Mountain before arriving in Kratie, a French colonial town, just in time for sunset over the river. Overnight at a comfortable riverside hotel (a/c, hot water). Cycling: 35 km.

Day 4 Transfer by car to the Mekong River south of Kompong Cham and board a ferry boat to cross to the Silk Islands. Enjoy a picnic and swim at a sandy beach on the tip of the northern-most island and make numerous excursions on the islands including visits to an island pagoda, local silk weaving communities, farms, villages and schools as we cycle across two islands. From the quiet east bank of the Mekong, we will board a two-deck cruise boat for a comfortable journey to Phnom Penh, enjoying great views of river life, fishing practices, a floating village, the four rivers region and the city. Watch the sunset over the river while enjoying a BBQ dinner and drinks on board before arriving at Phnom Penh. Cycling: 20 km.
